AMCA CFEI Calculator and Resources Spreadsheet
AMCA International has developed a spreadsheet tool for members to use for calculating Ceiling Fan Energy Index (CFEI) using data from laboratory reports for large diameter ceiling fans (LDCF) only. The CFEI calculator also advises users if CFEI values do not comply with U.S. federal energy efficiency regulations enforced by the U.S. Department of Energy.
LDCF are regulated by the U.S. Department of Energy for LDCF sold in the United States, regardless of manufacturing origin. Covered fans are ceiling fans with blade spans (diameters, including wing tips, if applicable) that are greater than 7-ft (2.13 m); belt-driven products are exempt.
CFEI is calculated using the Fan Energy Index equation in ANSI/AMCA 208, Calculating the Fan Energy Index, but replacing coefficients for pressure and airflow as specified by the U.S. Department of Energy in a rulemaking published in the Federal Register on May 27, 2021. The rulemaking replaces the DOE CFM/W metric with CFEI, effective immediately.
The CFEI calculator worksheet is supplemented with additional worksheets that provide hyperlinks to DOE regulation resources and to AMCA resources.
An AMCA white paper available to the public at www.amca.org/LDCF explains the CFEI metric and the DOE rulemaking. You can download the white paper PDF using THIS LINK. (activate when posted).
The CFEI calculator has locked the columns where formulas are used, preventing users from modifying the calculations. The calculator has instructions and examples. Before access is granted to the calculator, users must accept the terms and conditions when prompted. The spreadsheet uses a macro to facilitate the acceptance of terms and conditions. To ensure users can trust and enable the spreadsheet macro, AMCA has licensed a third-party DigiCert security certification.
